Helen Vivienne Fletcher

Helen came on board as co-Artistic Director in 2024.

She is a queer, disabled author, playwright and performer.

Helen’s work has won and been shortlisted for numerous awards, including winning the
Wellington Theatre Awards Outstanding New Playwright Award in 2015 and the 2020
Playmarket Plays for the Young Award. Her latest play, Confessions of a Sleepwalking
Insomniac, was commissioned and produced by TAHI for their 2022 Festival.

She has a background in stage management, and in 2018, she produced her first show, The Memory Plays, which featured her short play, Ruminate, alongside two other new New Zealand plays.

Helen holds qualifications in Creative Writing, Adult Education and Performing Arts. In
recent years, Helen has focused on performing poetry and solo storytelling, but returned to theatre in 2022, acting in a staged reading of Lessons Learned from Hannibal Lecter, as part of The Ōtepoti Theatre Lab.

She lives in Wellington with her disability assist dog, Bindi, an eight-year-old playful
Labrador who loves soft toys, cuddles and can fit three tennis balls in her mouth at once.
